Winter moon over a frozen landscape - Google Images |
Belated Winter so frosty,
Resembling thorns stabbing thro' hair,
Nothing to prevent the coldness,
What else but to stoically endure,
Rising misty moon is shivering too,
Whispering to junipers wearing snow flakes,
Spread your arms wide as wide you can amigos,
Embrace me in a bear hug so tight,
Glistening pathway that runs lakeward,
Downy slivers of snow lay beside,
Jingling sounds can be heard even,
When crushed beneath my steady footsteps,
Wiping away a feather of snow from my brow,
Weathering the wind that howls ceaseless,
Stepping on with a tenacious mindset,
Towards the starlight flickering yonder,
අදනං සිංහල බ්රෑන්ඩ් එකක්ද කොහෙද බීල තියෙන්නෙ. හැක්..

Ano,

Aww... Beautiful.. u should write more poems.
ReplyDeleteKeep up writing..!!
Rain Girl,
DeleteI would like to and thank you....:)
Only if you don't get offended...Just an opinion (just delete this after you've read it)... Poetry in English doesn't seem to be your thing. Your English is pretty good. E.g. That article about the cobweb was good. But this poem made me feel like I am being beaten by a club on head to strange rhythm. After each line it gets stuck awkwardly. In Sinhala blog world, the best English poems I've seen were by Bassi and Rasika Jayakody. Don't feel bad. I too belong to your category I guess. I am just a reader anyway :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry, I guess I was rude to say that. I withdraw the comment.
DeleteAno,
DeleteNo problem at all. I am not offended in any sense of the word. It's your opinion, you are entitled to it most certainly and moreover you have every right to express it.
Others may differ and that's their prerogative. Whether I accept your criticism or not is exclusively my prerogative.
You are most welcome to express your frank opinion in future too...:)

ReplyDeleteMy Frozen Rear
This sub zero stuff may finally be over
How do we survive every year
It ain't civilized, it's downright barbaric
This year got a frozen rear
Sat down on the coals in my barbecue pit
Took twenty-four hours to thaw
Till finally I smelled a very strange odour
Realized it was time to withdraw
A Canadian dude but this is insane
Even I can't handle this stuff
Told Cathie, better hide all the knives
Enough is bloody well enough
Likely flying south with the birdies next fall
Can't take another winter like this
Too old and decrepit, way past my prime
As I leave, I'll throw you all a big kiss
This sub zero stuff may finally be over
How do we survive each year!!!

ReplyDeleteWinter morning
Cold frost and sunshine: day of wonder!
But you, my friend, are still in slumber -
Wake up, my beauty, time belies:
You dormant eyes, I beg you, broaden
Toward the northerly Aurora,
As though a northern star arise!
Recall last night, the snow was whirling,
Across the sky, the haze was twirling,
The moon, as though a pale dye,
Emerged with yellow through faint clouds.
And there you sat, immersed in doubts,
And now, - just take a look outside:
The snow below the bluish skies,
Like a majestic carpet lies,
And in the light of day it shimmers.
The woods are dusky. Through the frost
The greenish fir-trees are exposed;
And under ice, a river glitters.
The room is lit with amber light.
And bursting, popping in delight
Hot stove still rattles in a fray.
While it is nice to hear its clatter,
Perhaps, we should command to saddle
A fervent mare into the sleight?
And sliding on the morning snow
Dear friend, we'll let our worries go,
And with the zealous mare we'll flee.
We'll visit empty ranges, thence,
The woods, which used to be so dense
And then the shore, so dear to me.
Alexander Pushkin
